DPF Cleaners

To maintain optimal operation

Introduction

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a critical component in modern diesel vehicles, designed to capture and store exhaust soot to reduce emissions. Over time, the DPF can become clogged, leading to reduced engine performance, increased fuel consumption, and potential engine damage. To maintain optimal operation, regular cleaning of the DPF is essential. This document provides an overview of DPF cleaners, their types, and how they work.

What is a DPF Cleaner?

A DPF cleaner is a chemical solution or cleaning process used to remove soot and other deposits from the diesel particulate filter. These cleaners help restore the filter’s efficiency and prolong its service life, preventing expensive repairs or replacements.

Types of DPF Cleaners
  • Fuel Additive Cleaners: These are poured directly into the vehicle’s fuel tank. As the engine runs, the additive helps to lower the temperature required for soot to burn off, aiding the regeneration process and cleaning the DPF passively.
  • Aerosol Spray Cleaners: These are applied directly to the DPF via a sensor port or pressure line. The solution works to dissolve soot and ash deposits, which are then expelled during normal operation.
The Best Solution:
  • Midex Professional Off-Vehicle Cleaning: Involves removing the DPF and using specialist solutions to clean it thoroughly. This is the most effective method for heavily clogged filters.

Product Overview

The Midex DPF Cleaner is a heavy-duty, professional-grade solution designed for rapid and effective cleaning of a diesel particulate filter(DPF) when removed from the vehicle. This formula quickly helps restore the blocked filter to full function by removing soot, ash and other contaminants in around two hours. It is especially recommended for severely blocked DPFs.

Recommended for:

Professional Use, where DPF filter can be safely removed from vehicle
Key Features

  • Maintains the efficiency and longevity of your vehicle’s emissions system.
  • Dissolves blockages that can reduce engine performance, increase fuel consumption, and potentially cause costly damage.
  • Ensures that the filter can regenerate effectively and continue to trap harmful particles, thereby keeping your vehicle compliant with emissions regulations and running smoothly.
Safety Precautions
  • Wear gloves and safety glasses when handling the cleaner.
  • For Off-car use only; do not use while the DPF is installed in the vehicle.
Directions for Use
  1. Preparation:
  2. Remove the DPF from the vehicle.
  3. Detach all sensors and probes from the filter.

    Cleaning with Bath Method:
  4. Completely submerge the DPF in a bath of Midex DPF Cleaner.
  5. Allow the filter to soak for one hour.
  6. Gently agitate the filter periodically during soaking to aid cleaning, ensuring the fluid covers the DPF at all times.
  7. After 90 to 120 minutes, remove the filter from the cleaning bath.
  8. Rinse the DPF thoroughly with warm water until the water runs clear.
  9. Dry the filter completely before reinstalling into the vehicle.

    Alternative Method (No Bath Available):
  10. Temporarily blank off the sensor holes and the engine-end aperture of the DPF.
  11. Fill the filter with Midex DPF Cleaner, ensuring the core is fully covered.
  12. Leave to soak for one hour, gently shake the filter to assist soot removal.
  13. After two hours, rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry as directed above.
Additional Notes

Ensure the DPF is completely dry before reinstalling to prevent damage or malfunction.

Severely blocked filters may benefit from a longer soaking period. For further details, download the technical data sheet.
